Transforming mindsets: "How a small mindset shift helped my student become a winner."!!!

“ Ma’am, I can not hit my shots confidently,” said my student.

“ But why?’ I asked.

“ I don’t know, but I am very anxious. Whenever I try to hit, I feel all the people around me are watching and I get nervous,” he explained.

“ But why nervousness about others’ opinions?” I probed further.

“ Because they will make fun of me and think I am not a good player,” he continued.

“ How important is their validation for you?” I questioned.

“ Very important”, he replied.

The above are the excerpts from my discussion with a student who eventually won the Tournament.

Today, I want to share a heartwarming experience involving one of my students, Mirajul. It highlights the power of mindset shift. This encounter took place during one of my regular sessions on anxiety, nervousness, and seeking validation from others with the students of Bagiya about two months ago.

During the session, as the students shared their challenges with exam anxiety, Mirajul raised his hand to seek attention. He explained that despite training rigorously for a long time, he was struggling with hitting his shots confidently in golf. When asked why, he expressed feeling anxious because he believed others were watching him and would judge him if he made mistakes.

Through further discussion, it became clear that Mirajul was under immense #performancepressure and was seeking external #validation. I realized that addressing these issues required a shift in his #mindset. I began working with him, using #NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) and #mindfulness techniques to help him overcome his anxieties and build confidence.

NLP techniques focus on understanding the language of our minds and how it impacts our behaviours. By helping Mirajul reframe his thoughts and beliefs, we were able to alleviate his anxiety and improve his confidence. The mindfulness techniques also played a crucial role in helping him stay present and focused, enabling him to perform at his best.

Over the following weeks, I observed Mirajul becoming more comfortable and confident in his abilities.

Last month, I was #overjoyed to see his photo in our #Bagiya group holding the state #amateurgolfer #trophy. It was a moment of immense pride for me as his coach.

This experience #reaffirmed my belief in the power of small mindset shifts. It showed me that with the right tools and techniques, we can help our students achieve remarkable results and transform their lives for the better. Mirajul's journey is a testament to the positive impact that NLP and mindfulness can have, and it serves as a reminder of the importance of believing in oneself.
